New Rule – Your Wellness Before Business

As small business owners, we often prioritize the success of our businesses over our own well-being. We work long hours, sacrifice our personal time, and often neglect our mental and physical health in the pursuit of growth and profitability. However, it’s important to recognize that we are first and foremost human beings, and our well-being should be our top priority. Otherwise, your bright light may burn out before you know it.

If you’re one of the naysayers who roll their eyes when you hear anyone say self-care, let’s break down why it’s so important:

Your well-being affects your businesses.
As the saying goes, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” If you aren’t taking care of yourself, you cannot expect to perform at your best in your business. Your mental and physical health directly impacts your productivity, decision-making, and ability to handle stress. By prioritizing your well-being, you can actually improve your business’s success in the long run.

Burnout is real – and detrimental to your businesses.
Small business owners are often at risk of falling into the burnout culture due to the demanding nature of running a business. Burnout can lead to exhaustion, decreased productivity, and physical health problems. Make sure you recognize the signs of burnout and take steps to prevent it before it negatively impacts you and your businesses.

Your well-being sets an example for your employees.
You are the leader and role model for your employees. By prioritizing your mental and physical health, you demonstrate to your team members that taking care of yourself is important and can actually lead to better business outcomes. You can also create a culture of wellness in your workplaces by promoting self-care and prioritizing mental health.

Your well-being extends beyond your businesses.
You’re more than just a business owner. You’re partners, parents, friends, and members of our communities. By prioritizing yourself, you can show up as your best self in all aspects of your life, not just in your business. This can lead to more fulfilling personal relationships, improved mental health, and a sense of balance and purpose.

Remember to recognize that we are human beings first and small business owners second. Prioritizing your well-being is not only important for your personal health and happiness but also for the success of your businesses in the long run. By taking care of yourself, you can improve your productivity, prevent burnout, set an example for your employees, and show up as your best self in all aspects of your lives. So, let’s make our well-being a priority and watch our businesses thrive as a result.

What are some ways you either maintain your wellness or will start implementing small habits now? Tell me in the comments!

Wishing you good health always.

  1. Great post! I often suffer burnout. It can be hard because I look after my toddler during the day so have to work at night and I sacrifice sleep to get stuff done. I needed this reminder today.
