Done With Hospitality or Retail? Be A PART-TIME Client Liaison/Project Manager!
We are a small book production company (we have 8 employees) located on Main Street in Boonton NJ. We are looking to bring on a new, part-time, team member. No experience is necessary. Zilch. Zippo. Squat. We will train you. But, you do need to bring certain inherent traits. Let’s dig in, shall we?
- The Job Responsibility – You will work with a handful of authors to structure and publish successful business books. You will conduct research on the viability and positioning of different topics. You will guide authors, through your research, on the elements and structure of their book. Then you will work on the three stages of book promotion (pre-launch activity, launch period marketing, and front-list/back-list momentum). You will be on phone/video conferences with authors and vendors regularly. You will be organizing large, long-term projects (the typical author project is 18 to 24 months long). And you will be curating and creating new ideas in book marketing and promotion.
- Your Experience – You don’t need it. We will teach you, young Jedi.
- Your Traits – You will excel at the job if the following traits are inherent to you. But before the big “trait reveal” if these traits are not natural to you, we suggest you don’t apply. Because if you do, you won’t be happy. And then we won’t be happy. And then ain’t nobody happy… including Momma*:
- Project Coordination – You will be managing many moving parts. And it will all culminate in a crazy busy insane-o “launch week.” If you like to organize projects, if you like spreadsheets or other project management tools/methods, this will be a lot of fun for you.
- Research – You will dig deep into research, identify data sources and conduct analysis. You will use AI tools to identify patterns and trends. You will compile reports/findings that are easy to understand and deploy. Like going down rabbit holes? Then you will like this, Bugs.
- Accountability & Schedules – You will need to hold authors accountable (it can be like herding cats at times, but we will show you how). So if you like managing schedules and working with individuals to achieve a collective goal, this will be your thang.
- Communication – Every job on this planet requires good communication, except apparently customer support at a cable internet company (just sayin’). What is unique about this job are the dynamics of communication. In addition to the author, you will coordinate with the publisher, editors, graphic designers and others. Things can get confusing and the old telephone game of confusion can set in. So you need to be proactive, be clear and ensure everyone knows what is going on while making everyone feel heard and happy. So if you like managing multiple people, sorting out confusion and being a liaison for all communication, well my God, you have found your dream job – weirdo.
- Sense of Humor – We like to have fun at the office and horse around. Everyone here works their butt off, so the occasional joke or prank is a joy. Humor is necessary, and not doing things that are offensive or hurtful is mandatory. Bring your best Jim (or Jane) Gaffigan. (We are cool with the occasional F-bomb. Plus the word is magically flexible).
- The Work Schedule – This is a part-time position (and has the potential to become a full-time job if that serves both you and the company). This position is 15 to 20 hours a week. We will always do our best to accommodate your schedule while expecting you to get the job done. You will meet with our President every week for a half-hour or so to ensure you are having fun, getting the job done and having a great work-life. We take your happiness seriously and believe that we all can do more when we are feeling good.
- The Location – As we shared above we are in Boonton, NJ. Free parking is about 2 blocks away. We would like you to come to the office twice a week (or more if you can) in the morning hours. We have a team meeting after 9am each day and would like you there syncing up with our team. You also may work from home on the days you choose.
- Cash/Money/Green/Payola/Dinero – The job is $15/hour. No, you won’t get rich off of that, particularly in New Jersey. So if you need this job because of the money alone, we probably are not a fit. But if you are looking for an acceptable salary, with a great work environment and really cool perks, then this is the place. Yes, there are perks, that you won’t find anywhere else (that we know of): After one year of employment, all employees (part-timers included) get to share in our quarterly profit distributions. After one year of employment, you will be given an annual four consecutive week PAID vacation (this is in addition to other vacation time). And you will love our team. We are very selective on the people we surround ourselves with, just like we suspect you are. Our rule is “No dicks allowed.” And if that offended you, well then… we are very sorry for being a dick by saying that… and this is probably not a good company for you.
- Fun – We do an annual out of office multi-day retreat (we pay all expenses and your salary). We also occasionally do dinners or hit the local bar together, because we like hanging out together. And we horse around at the office – all in good fun and nothing ever offensive. But pranks and jokes will happen. And every so often, bumper chairs (you gotta experience it to get it).
The position is open for immediate hire. But we are going to take our time to make sure we find the right person (you). And we hope you are as selective when you are considering us.
