Question The Assumption

Business is full of assumptions. It’s just the way it is, I assume.

The term “bankers hours” came about because of the limited, unaccommodating hours they kept. Banks were open from 10am to 4pm, Monday through Friday, typically with one “late night a week” where they wouldn’t lock the doors until 6pm. All banks did it, because that was just the way it was. Until. . .

Vernon Hill questioned the assumption. Why can’t banks have hours (and services) that are more like fast food restaurants? With that question, Commerce Bank was created and the banking industry was revolutionized.

Rural businesses struggle to recruit top talent. A-players have the freedom to go where ever they want, and they want the wealthy suburbs or newly gentrified cities or something international. Until. . .

Dr. Sabrina Schleicher (who’s photograph is the thumbnail for this post) questioned the assumption. What would make top recruits thirst to live in God’s country? With that question, Tap The Potential was created and the little firm has changed the recruiting paradigm for rural America.

What are the assumptions in your industry? Why haven’t you questioned them yet? Or is that just the way it is?

  1. Every revolution needs more time to prepare and cook up. It is not merely a sudden release could become a revolutionary. Bank hours or fast food chains as well as each other, and a springboard to leap alone
