As I write this, I just finished hosting the 2015 Rule Breaker Awards. Amazing entrepreneur after amazing entrepreneur was recognized for breaking the rules. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

All our lives we have been told to follow the rules. Color in within the lines, or you will have to do it again and again until you get it right. Follow the instructions or you will fail. We learn to observe and repeat. We learn to comply.

But there are these outsiders. The weirdos who had the chutzpah to give the finger to the rules. The noise makers. The crazy ones. The people who make us feel uncomfortable, because they won’t just sit down and shut up. They drive us nuts… until…

one day we realize they were right. That’s when we fall in love with them. We thank them for finally changing the market or the industry or the world. The rule breakers, ultimately set the new rules and we can’t get enough of them.

Go. Set forth. Break the rules, regardless of what we say. We will ultimately love you for it.
