I think every teacher I had growing up encouraged me to be well-rounded. You better know your history, write well (or is it “good?”), excel at math, drive perfectly, be athletic, master public speaking, play an instrument, read olde English literature, blah, blah, blah…
When did you last care about how good your accountant is at playing the guitar? When did you last care if your computer guy was a master orator? When did you last care if your lawyer could resight William Shakespeare?
Well-rounded is over rated. Mastery is under rated.
Nice post Mike! I like the concept. In the end, we specialize on one thing instead of trying to be good at 100 different things. Well-rounded is definitely overrated.
Jack of all trades versus master of one!
Hope you are doing well Marc!
