What if your business had an opportunity to take on the Goliaths of the industry. Vic tells us not only how his company is taking on the established, but also how the Goliaths are starting to collapse and he explains how to do it profitably. You’re about to discover some extremely innovative ways for how to start a media company – literally for $10-100 per article that he ultimately converted into powerful videos and now he’s becoming one of the fastest growing companies in his industry. Welcome to episode 150 of the Profit First Podcast!
Vic Belonogoff is the CEO of Render Media, a digital media powerhouse that owns and operates three rapidly growing content destinations: Cooking Panda, the Internet’s most engaged food publication; Opposing Views, providing balanced and nonpartisan news coverage; and Teen Times, a leading online destination for the next generation of fashion and beauty trendsetters (set to officially launch in late January 2017).
Since he began his tenure as CEO of Render Media (formerly Opposing Views) in 2011, Vic has guided the company’s transformation into a leading online content source. In 2016, the company was named the #2 fastest-growing media company in America by Inc. 5000 and the #1 fastest-growing digital media publisher in North America by the Deloitte Fast 500 list. Under his direction, Render has experienced rapid acceleration, reaching over 31 million Unique Monthly Visitors and 25 million Facebook fans across multiple verticals.
While Vic’s career is now focused on redefining how content is delivered and consumed, his path to digital media was unconventional. He started in the life sciences industry as a product manager working on gene discovery R&D. He spent nearly a decade at firms such as Applied Biosystems and Celera Genomics, where he used his data analysis skills to shepherd new products from early stage to commercialization.
Vic left biotech behind in 2008 to co-found Deep Dive Media – an online publishing venture tasked with building a portfolio of consumer websites with information on a range of healthcare issues. As CEO, he used his medical and product management knowledge to grow the company over the next two years, and ultimately oversee its acquisition of Opposing Views. Opposing Views Inc. rebranded as Render Media in 2015 and has since added digital properties Cooking Panda and Teen Times to it’s portfolio. Today, Vic’s transformation from science to digital media is complete, as he leads multiple websites recognized for their unique approach to growing an audience as well as delivering compelling content to a young demographic.
Vic earned dual undergraduate degree in biochemistry with a minor in business administration from UCLA.
